The Power of Stories

At the beginning of this week, we had a truly joyful time filming the teaser trailer for Dizzy by Mohamed-Zain Dada at Leake Street in London; a place brimming with creativity and energy.

While the day was filled with excitement, it also involved important conversations about safety, particularly concerning our lead actor, who was wearing a hijab. In 2024, it’s absurd that these discussions are still necessary, but were crucial to ensure everyone’s safety.

Incidents of violence, Islamophobia and racism across the UK this weekend remind us how essential it is to foster understanding and acceptance. Something the UK is currently failing at. Certain tabloids, media outlets, public figures and politicians have long been responsible for spreading hate and fueling far-right rhetoric, highlighting the influential role stories have in shaping our worldview.

So it’s super clear - the diversity of stories we see, hear, and experience needs to be rich, broad, and equitable. Dizzy seeks to contribute to this shift, showcasing stories and perspectives that have long been underrepresented.

We look forward to sharing Dizzy with audiences in schools and theatres very soon. I hope that it will inspire conversations that might not have happened otherwise and ultimately create some joyful change.
