Karl Singporewala RWA RIBA

Trustee

Karl is an architect, artist and academician at the Royal West of England Academy of Art. 

He began his architecture career in 2007 at Ian Ritchie Architects (iRAL) working across culture, education and museum sectors as well as sculpture. In 2017, he was appointed as co-director of Barbara Weiss Architects (BWA) before founding Karl Singporewala Design Bureau (KSdb) in 2024. Current appointments include positions on the Royal West of England Council and the Exhibitions Advisory Committee. He is chartered architect with the Royal Institute of British Architects and was given the life-time honour of being elected as Royal Academician at the RWA, Bristol in 2023.  

Always as part of a team and in collaboration with engineers, patrons and industry, notable building awards include (at iRAL) World Architecture Festival Reuse Award, RICS Innovation and Building of the Year, BCI Major Projects Award, International LEAF Façade award and (at BWA) Architecture Today Schuco Award for Adaptive Retrofit and Reuse. Art awards include the RWA BAME Art Prize, HIX People’s Choice art award and the Nagoya University Award, Japan for Excellence in Art and Architecture. 

Karl’s work is held in collections world-wide including the RWA, Bristol and Hamilton Princess, Bermuda. Select gallery exhibitions include the Saatchi Gallery, Onassis Cultural Centre Athens, V&A digital futures, the New York Institute of Technology, and the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
