James Cooney

Trustee

James is a British Filipino actor, actor trainer and writer. After graduating from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), he has worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Shakespeare’s Globe, The Old Vic and the Almeida Theatre amongst other UK theatre companies. His TV credits include Disney+ Star Wars spin-off Andor, as well Casualty, The ABC Murders and Silent Witness for the BBC.  He has also worked in radio and voice over for commercials and video games. 

James has an MA in Actor Training and Coaching from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) and has worked as an actor trainer for RCSSD, The Almeida, ArtsEd, The Elevate Ensemble, and the RSC Education department, as well as freelance work with schools and individuals across the UK. 

James is a published writer. He contributed monologues to Hear Me Now, Volume 2: Audition Monologues for Actors of Colour,  published by Bloomsbury, and his essay entitled ‘Mabuhay as an Act of Resistance’ was published as a part of the Stanislavsky and Race collection published by Routledge.
